Hunting mule deer in Colorado
Colorado mule deer are a draw-only proposition — there is no over-the-counter option — but the western-slope units produce as many heavy, deep-forked November bucks as anywhere in the West. Third and fourth rifle seasons, when migration pushes deer out of the high country, are the prize dates; many quality units draw with zero to two points while the trophy names take far longer.
The nonresident buck license is about $507 plus a qualifying license and habitat stamp, and licenses left after the main draw roll to a points-free secondary draw worth watching each summer. Guided hunts run $4,500–$8,000 for 5 days, mostly on private ranches or landowner-voucher ground; verify any outfitter through Colorado DORA before sending a deposit.
